Goodwill Launches ‘Socks for Kids’ Campaign to Support Local Students in Need

In celebration of National Care for Kids Day on September 20, Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia is kicking off a new initiative to provide essential items to local students.  The “Socks for Kids” campaign, running through select Goodwill retail stores, seeks to address a surprising but critical need in schools: socks. As cooler weather approaches, teachers across Bibb, Laurens, and Jones counties report that socks are among the most requested items for students, many of whom lack basic clothing essentials.

For just $5, community members can purchase a bag of new socks at participating Goodwill stores, which will then be donated to schoolchildren in need. The campaign highlights the power of collective community efforts—small purchases adding up to make a big difference. “Together, we can ensure children don’t go without something as basic as warm, comfortable socks,” said Jennifer Tyner, Vice President for Development at Goodwill.

Local schools in Bibb, Laurens, Jones, Richmond, and Waynesboro counties will be selected through a special drawing, ensuring equitable distribution of the socks to the students who need them most. The campaign is a reminder of Goodwill’s longstanding commitment to the well-being of local communities, not only by providing affordable goods but also by investing in education and job training. More than 86% of Goodwill’s revenue supports services that help individuals and families in need build better futures—one career at a time.

This grassroots initiative shows how a simple action—buying socks—can spark positive change for students across Middle Georgia, ensuring they head into the school year with confidence and comfort.

Goodwill invites everyone to participate in this community-wide effort, showing how small acts of kindness can have lasting impacts, especially for the youngest and most vulnerable members of society.
